Since 2008, May has been declared the month of Exercise is Medicine. This is a time for everyone, from healthcare providers to members of the public, to celebrate the valuable health benefits of exercise. Regular exercise can help you control your weight, boost your energy levels, improve your mood, and even fight some diseases. Exercise has been shown to be beneficial in increasing high-density lipoprotein (HDL) also known as good cholesterol, which prevents high blood pressure. In addition, exercise can help prevent a wide range of health problems including stroke, type 2 diabetes, depression, arthritis, and certain types of cancer.

This month's challenge is to be active every day for the month of May. Click on the picture below to download the Exercise is Medicine May Calendar. Fill in each day that you do an activity 30 minutes daily! SHOW IT TO ME ON JUNE 1ST AND ONE PERSON WILL WIN A FREE TRAINING SESSION!

So what counts as being active? I'm not going to ask you to run 10 miles every day (unless you want to of course). Even simple things like gardening or running around with your kids outside are great ways to take advantage of the benefits exercise has to offer. What's important is choosing activities you enjoy doing, and finding a way they can fit in your schedule.

Our family doing something we love- a triathlon!

Talk to a coworker during your lunch break and see if they want to take a quick walk with you. Take your kids to a local pool on a warm afternoon and see if you can catch them in a game of Marco Polo. Plant some flowers in your backyard or in pots around your home. Most importantly, enjoy the beauty of spring and the happiness you get from exercise!

Blessings,

Caroline
